Medium voltage transformers operate on the primary side at 11 kV, 22 kV or 33 kV — the voltage levels used for regional distribution and for large industrial and commercial intake substations.

Selecting a medium voltage transformer is not only about kVA. Insulation level (BIL), vector group, impedance, tapping range and the short-circuit withstand capability of the winding all have to match the network you are connecting to. We engineer each unit against your network data so it can be installed and energised without site modification.

Manufacturing, Testing and Standards

Every unit is built under documented process control and subjected to routine tests before dispatch: winding resistance, voltage ratio and vector group, impedance voltage and load loss, no-load loss and current, applied and induced voltage dielectric tests, and functional checks of accessories. Type tests — including lightning impulse, temperature rise and short-circuit withstand — are available for new designs and project requirements. See our testing and quality control pages.

Frequently Asked Questions

In power distribution practice, medium voltage generally covers 1 kV up to 36 kV. The most common distribution levels are 11 kV, 22 kV and 33 kV.
It depends entirely on the supply available at your site and on the utility’s distribution standard. Higher primary voltage means lower current and lower cable losses, but requires higher insulation level and more expensive switchgear.
Our focus is the transformer itself. We coordinate the interface — bushings, cable boxes, protection signals — with your switchgear supplier. Hebei Youge Electrical Equipment Co., Ltd. if you also supply packaged substations.
Yes. Send us the nameplate data and, where possible, the dimensional drawing and terminal arrangement. We will confirm a replacement or an equivalent modern design with matching footprint.
