Distribution Transformers for Factories
We supply distribution transformers for factories of every type — assembly, machining, plastics, textiles, food processing, packaging and more.
A factory’s transformer is the single point where the incoming medium voltage becomes usable production power. If it is undersized, the line trips under peak load. If it is oversized, you pay for capacity and losses you never use.
We supply distribution transformers for factories of every type — assembly, machining, plastics, textiles, food processing, packaging and more. This page explains how to work out the rating you actually need and what to specify.
What Matters for This Application
- Large motor starting currents causing voltage dip
- Variable speed drives and rectifiers producing harmonics
- Production expansion that adds load after commissioning
- High ambient temperature inside factory substations
- Dust, oil mist and conductive contamination in the air
- Limited shutdown window for installation and changeover
Recommended Transformer Solution
- Oil immersed transformer for outdoor or perimeter substations
- Dry type cast resin unit for indoor substations inside the production hall
- Higher insulation class (F or H) where ambient temperature is high
- Enclosure IP rating matched to dust and wash-down conditions
- Harmonic-aware design when drives and rectifiers are a large share of load
- Capacity headroom of 20–30% above calculated maximum demand
Sizing Guidance
Factory transformer sizing starts from a load list, not from a guess. Add up the connected load, apply a diversity factor to reflect that not everything runs at once, then add growth margin. Check the result against the largest motor starting condition and against any process peak.
Installation Notes
- Install on a plinth or pad with adequate ventilation and oil containment where required
- Keep clearance around the unit for cooling air and for future replacement
- Terminate HV and LV with correct torque, glands and earthing
- Carry out insulation resistance, ratio, vector group and functional checks before energising
Testing and Commissioning
Before energisation the unit is checked on site: insulation resistance, voltage ratio and vector group, earthing and terminations, and functional checks of protection and monitoring devices. See the testing page for the full programme.
