Pad mounted transformers place the transformer inside a lockable, tamper resistant enclosure that sits on a concrete pad. The unit is fed from underground cables and is widely used where overhead lines are not acceptable, such as commercial districts, residential developments and public facilities.

Where are pad mounted transformers used?
They are used where a ground level enclosure is preferred instead of an overhead or indoor installation, typically in commercial districts, residential developments, hospitals and public facilities fed by underground cables.
What is the difference between dead front and live front?
In a dead front design the high voltage connections are fully enclosed and not accessible when the cabinet is opened, which is the safer and more common arrangement. Live front designs expose the high voltage connectors and are used in some utility networks.
Can the transformer be supplied as dry type?
Yes. The enclosure can house either an oil immersed transformer or a cast resin dry type transformer, depending on the fire safety and environmental requirements of the site.
What is the design life?
The enclosure and transformer are designed for a service life of approximately 20 to 30 years under normal loading and environmental conditions.
